The 1965-1966 Ford Galaxie 500XL was a continuation of the sporty Galaxie 500 sub-series in the first new big-Ford generation since 1960. The 1965s boasted more angular styling (announced by stacked quad headlamps), a sturdier new frame derived from stock-car racing experience, Ford's first-ever coil-spring rear suspension, stronger front suspension hardware, and tighter rear-axle location via twin control arms, a single lateral member, and a Panhard rod.The 500XL bodies were stronger, too, and fewer attachment points reduced noise. That led Ford to advertise its 1965s as "quieter than a Rolls-Royce," a claim made mainly for the new limousine-like LTD hardtop sedan. Even so, Ford's big 1965 stockers gave the division its best-ever NASCAR season, winning 48 of the 55 scheduled Grand National events.
According to the previous owner this Beautiful Galaxie has been in the restoration process since 2002 and is now complete. Please let all the pictures load (there are over 100) to see the stunning condition of this classic Ford! The exterior paint, trim and chrome are beautiful, with a show quality repaint in the original color of Wimbledon White! All exterior chrome and trim has been either redone or replaced. The original 390 Big Block V-8 has been completely rebuilt. The interior can best be described as incredible and is a combination of original and restored. The undercarriage is unbelievably solid, clean and dry with no issues! Very nicely equipped, with the cruise-o-matic 3 speed transmission, dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers, power steering, power top, remote control mirror, AM radio, electric clock, deluxe seat belts, tinted windshield, bucket seats with full floor console, deluxe wire wheel covers and the very rare reclining passenger seat with adjustable headrest. All lights, signals, horn, radio, windows, mirrors, gauges, power top and heat, are fully operational. Overall, this car is exceptional and it rides and handles like a dream! This car has received numerous awards at car shows over the last few years and is ready for a new owner. We have a custom car cover and a 1965 Ford shop manual that will be included in the sale. If you have been looking for a turn key Galaxie convertible that really needs nothing, this is it! You would be hard pressed to find a nicer one!
Please remember that this car is 43 years old and not perfect. There are a few VERY MINOR imperfections on the paint, too small to see in the photos.
